Trinidad & Tobago Stamp Details
Trinidad and Tobago Stamps – Unlike the majority of the British colonies, Trinidad never used British stamps. The first being the famous Lady Macleod issues, produced by a local shipping company in 1847. Having set up a Postal Administration, in 1851 the first issues were introduced, using the undenominated ‘Britannia’ design. These were all 1d values in a variety of colours. Tobago used the Trinidad stamps from 1860–1879, when its own issues were introduced, however, they reverted to the Trinidad issues in 1896. In 1913 the two administrations were joined and all stamps were then inscribed ‘Trinidad and Tobago’.
