1902-1911 Edward VII Stamp Details
Reigning from 22 January 1901 to 1 May 1910, King Edward VII Stamps were a single beautiful design series of definitive stamps, which encapsulates the entire stamp-issuing output of this period, although the last stamp bearing King Edward VII was issued as late as 1913.
Eight different frame designs were taken directly from the 1887-00 “Jubilee” issue with the colours and values retained albeit with a new Monarch's head! Philatelists recognise three distinct sets identified by the printing house responsible. De La Rue printed stamps to £1 issued between 1901 and 1910; stamps by Harrison & Sons to 4d were issued in 1911 and included two different perforation gauges & those printed at Somerset House to £1 issued between 1911 and 1913.

Specialised stamp collectors seek out the myriad of beautiful shades identified on these stamps and listed by the printer in the Stanley Gibbons catalogue. The rarest stamp King Edward VII stamp is the 1910 2d Tyrian Plum, only one used example is known on a cover addressed to the Prince of Wales which arrived on the day the King died, only a few mint examples survived from being destroyed and have sold for amounts approaching £100,000. As well as the excellent Stanley Gibbons catalogue listings we recommend their Great Britain Specialised Stamp Catalogue Volume 2 “King Edward VII to King George VI” packed with additional information on plate flaws, proofs, and marginal markings including date cuts & control numbers amongst much else.
